Babcock Black Label Cuvée Syrah 2000
 |
|
BN#227700 |
The wine is dark, dense, and extremely rich. Ambitious in its ripeness, extraction, and cooperage. Shows lots of fruit and sweetness, but an aldehydic, raisny overripmess goes along with it. This wine's acidity and textural density do a great job of holding its more high-toned Syrah fruit tightly together. The wine lets your palate explore the realm of a hedonistic, dark chocolatey fruit syrup, but it never lets you get stuck in it like quicksand. Intense blackberry resonates throughout the wine. In the nose are Syrah's trophy elements of pepper, truffles and violets.
Wine Enthusiast
With wines like this, Santa Barbara argues that it’s the greatest home for Syrah in California. Incredibly dark and dense, the wine offers up deep flavors of plums and blackberries. It’s pretty tannic now, but fat and dense, the kind of wine that will easily age. Possesses that elusive quality of elegance.
