Cadence Winery Ciel du Cheval Vineyard 2004
This is the blend I’ve always wanted from Ciel! Tobacco, spice and black berry aromas pour out of the glass. The wine really expands in the middle with an explosion of black fruit and velvety power. It finishes with characteristic Ciel elegance, sweet tannins and a long spicy berry finish. Wine Spectator Firm in texture, this lean red has a mild tannic grip around its flavors of berry, with hints of rosemary and roasted lamb. The fruit expands gracefully, persisting gently on the finish. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2008 through 2014. 650 cases made. Score: 91. —Harvey Steiman, May 15, 2007.Wine Enthusiast Here is another stellar effort from Cadence, with the control and precision that begins to show why Washington should emulate France more than California. This does not have the sheer weight and tannin of the Klipsun, but it compensates with an underlying minerality and a sinuous core of ripe but not too ripe red fruits. Complex and understated, this is a wine for fans of subtlety and elegance. Score: 91. —Paul Gregutt, March 01, 2007. |
