Cadence Winery Bel Canto 2004
As always, Bel Canto is our favorite blend of the 10 most harmonious barrels in the winery, and a powerful statement about the quality of Red Mountain fruit. The nose is savory in spades with chocolate, tobacco, berries and spice. The aromas echo on the palate, with a breadth and volume to the mouthfeel that cannot come from anything but Cabernet Franc. The flavors build on the back half to a finish of finesse, length, power and precision. Wine Spectator Lithe, supple and seductive, this velvety red shows layers of currant, blackberry, roasted red pepper and herb flavors wrapped tightly in shapely, refined tannins. A touch of sweet oak adds to the mix. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2008 through 2014. 250 cases made. Score: 93. —Harvey Steiman, May 15, 2007.Wine Enthusiast This is wonderfully fragrant, lush, plush and enveloping—it almost suffocates you with aromas of fruit and barrel and nicely-rendered spice. The fruit is pure and ripe, but the acids are preserved and the tannins are ripe, though still a bit chewy. Score: 92. —Paul Gregutt, March 01, 2007. Wine Advocate The 2004 Red Wine “Bel Canto” is a barrel selection of the best lots from the single vineyard cuvees. It is composed of 50% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. Purple-colored, it has a smoky nose with aromas of herbs, clove, cassis, and black currants. Supple-textured, the wine cuts a broad path on the palate with layers of flavor, excellent depth, and a long, pure finish. Cellar this classy wine for 3-5 years and drink it through 2027. Score: 90. —Jay Miller, August 2007. |
