Altesino Brunello di Montalcino 2001
Ruby red in color tending toward garnet with age with an ample bouquet of violet and vanilla. Dry and velvety on the palate. Rich with an optimal balance of fruit, acidity, and tannin. Recommended with roasted red meats and game. Excellent with aged cheeses. Wine Enthusiast Strawberry, cherry, apple cider, almond paste, caramel, hints of mint and deeper notes of chocolate and espresso make for an engaging and complex nose. Pronounced acidity is backed by firm tannins and a smooth, spicy finish. Score: 91. April 01, 2006.Wine Spectator Loads of strawberry and fresh herb character, including mint. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and a long, fresh finish. A bit jammy but all there. Best after 2007. 7,000 cases made Score: 90. —James Suckling, April 30, 2006. |
